Find a contemporary portrait that shows wealth through objects that surround the model and way they are dressed;
I picked Queen B, Beyonce from her advert that advertised her previous tour. I picked it because it shows so much royalty and control. Her
whole entire outfit screams 'Queen', from the dress to the crown in her up do
crimped hair.
She is
also showing a lot of wealth with the majority of her outfit is gold. Gold, silver, scarlet, deep indigo blue and violet colours were only worn by the highest social class.
You can see that Beyonce is wearing Gold and Indigo as the main colours. This shows authority and wealth, on a social ladder, she would be seen as Royalty.
Elizabethan
era, people were not allowed to wear whatever colour of clothes that they wanted. It did not matter who you were; - the colour and material of their clothes were placed by their position/status and this was
enforced by English Law. The law that was placed for women and men to wear certain colours was called the Sumptuary Law. It was placed to help control the structure of Elizabethan Class system.
