Health and Safety/Consultation

Healthy and Safety in a Studio:
In one our lessons, Sue stressed to us about Health and Safety in a studio. We discussed the importance of health and safety, and how to prevent any harm to anyone working on a shoot/spreading infections to future clients. You must always start with a consultation with you client before any make-up is applied.

The basic rules to follow:

  • Your hair must be up the whole time you apply make-up
  • Wash your hands before and after every shoot, to prevent passing on infections.
  • Wash brushes before/after a shoot (preferable brush cleaner).
  • Client/Model should always be covered when applying make-up, either with tissue or a cape, to make sure no make-up falls on to the models/actors clothes.
Questions you should ask your client/model before a shoot:
  • Are you allergic to any products?
  • Do you wear contact lenses?
  • Have you previously had any skin problems/diseases before the shoot?
  • Find out what type of skin they have? Is it too dry? Is it normal? You need to assess skin tone so you can apply the makeup properly and doesn't ruin the final look.
Tips you should keep in mind during the shoot:
  • Be careful of the models eyes.
  • Be interactive with your model, keep small talking going. Making sure that they are ok.
  • Make sure that you are sticking to your brief/contract of the shoot. If create the wrong look, the shoot won't be able to go ahead ad you won't be used again.
