21st Century Elizabethan

I was really excited when I started to research Elizabethan designs. I wanted to find something that stood out to other usual designs.

I came across Thom Browne and his 'Elizabethans Clown' which appeared in New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014. I instantly fell in love with his work.

I love how the make-up wasn't perfect, with a white base and smudged eyeshadow/eyeliner and red lipstick. It looks really fierce and badass. I like how it isn't perfect because in the Elizabethan era, they wore make-up to look perfect/the best. This is just an example of the opposite of perfect and gives it that contemporary look.

I also wanted to find more of an elegant design to have two contrasts. I came across a wonderful image by 'Kirsty Mitchell' called 'The White Queen'.

I think the make-up is truly breathtaking with such simple colours, it has defined the models face perfectly. I adore the colour used round the eyes, a golden/bronze colour with gorgeous white eyelashes. Because of the bronze colours, the white eyelashes really stand out. The whole design including the hair pieces are incredible. It is so modern but has a strong Elizabethan feeling to it.
