Peer Review

Working with a partner for our assessment has been a great way to get to know class mates better. I was worried my partner and I wouldn't talk that much and just get on with our projects quietly. But that wasn't the case. Molly and I have got a lot closer since the start of the term, I've also gained a walking buddy.

We worked really well together and never disagreed about anything we discussed. We practised our full looks a couple of times, then practise individual parts at different times. By the time we had our assessment, we both felt confident enough to do each others look perfectly. Even with a struggle with the pearl eyebrows, I am really happy Molly found a way for it to work!

Molly did such a good job when it came to creating my design on me. She did every bit of the make-up step by step, to make sure I was happy with it all. I felt like I had 100% confidence in Molly when it came to the final assessment. The only issue was the pearl eyebrows and the glue showing but in the photos you can't see it. I also know Molly's design didn't completely show on the camera, as it washed her face out. For next time I would either add more of a base so it shows more or make sure the lighting was a little bit darker.
But overall I am really happy with working with Molly and think we've both learnt things for our next projects. But I would happily work with my partner again in future projects. I feel like both of us worked really hard and it showed in our final images.

My Final Design (photos)

Here are the final photos of Molly doing my design on me. Overall I am really happy with the outcome, my partner did an amazing job. I had no doubt she wouldn't be able to do it and I am so happy she didn't give up with my design. I know it was a struggle with sticking the pearls onto my eyebrows but my partner found a way and she did it.
My partner constantly asked me if I was happy with what she was doing during our practise trials. The only thing I would change for next time is to find a way to keep the pearls in a straight line. I know Sue also mentioned she could see the glue but thankfully in the photos it doesn't show but for next time I would use a different glue to stick them on.

But overall I am really pleased with what my partner did and would have no problems with working with her again.

Final Assessment

So today was the day of the final assessment! Safe to say I was nervous!

Overall I am really happy with the outcome of the make-up. After practising with Molly numerous times and constantly asking if she was definitely happy (sorry about that), she reassure me every time she was happy. I think it sticks to the brief that we were set and looks like Molly's design. For my first assessment, I am really proud that I got it done quickly. I like how define Molly's cheekbones look and with pale base, the make-up really stood out. With the white eyelashes and eyebrows, I think it really made the look effective.
If I could change one thing it would be how I applied the lip colour, I would have made sure the base and the gold on top, stood out more, as I feel the pictures don't really show it.
I am so happy to have been paired with Molly as I think we worked really well together and both our final images show that.

Status/Symbols in 21st Century photos

Looking at modern adverts, it's hard to find one that shows just wealth. I have previously spoken about Beyonce and her Queen B advert for her tour (in another recent blog). When I looked I was either given Beyonce or Katy Perry.
So for this blog I decided it was Katy Perry's time to shine.

As you can see she's advertising her latest perfume and you can instantly see she has a lot of power and authority from the way she is sitting on her thrown. In my a previous blog I spoke about colours being a big thing when suggesting someone has wealth. The colour red was one of the colours that suggested that and Katy is wearing all red. Even her perfume bottle is red/gold. If you actually look at the picture, there isn't really much going on. You have a room with a chair and a person holding a sceptre. But the way the chair and Katy is placed, they are letting you instantly assume she has control of whatever the situation is.

Reflecting the lesson; I've enjoyed being to unpick the meaning behind photographs and portraits. I've learnt it doesn't take much for us as an audience to understand photos in adverts. Even with the Katy Perry perfume advert, you piece what information you are given and place it together.

Self Portrait

So in this lesson we were set to take a portrait of ourself with objects that show our personality. Well I am not a big fan of having my photo taken, hence why I want to be a make-up artist in TV and Film. I'd rather be behind the camera than in front of it. As I am passionate about learning make-up (specifically special effects), I held up my brushes. This way you could focus on a feature that I do like about myself (my eyes) and the one thing I would love to do one day (become a qualified make-up artist in tv and film).

5 face chart

My final face chart design, I have always seen Hardwick as second best. She was never number and lost out to Queen Elizabeth 1. So with this design I thought I would make it look perfect but one thing would be imperfect.
So it would look like a beauty make-up, with the foundation to make the models tone. I would contour and highlight the face with MAC bronzer and highlighter. Again I would have the eyes golden by using Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I would then add glitter in the inside of the eye and blend it into the middle of the eyes. To finish the eyes I would apply white mascara to eyelashes. I would finish the whole look by applying red lipstick to lips and smudge it cross the cheek.
